THE JOHANNESBURG PHILHARMONIC CHOIR

Synopsis

The Johannesburg Philharmonic Choir relocated to Kensington, Johannesburg, in 1997. Our membership is between 20 and 30. We welcome new members and invite any interested singers to consider joining our ranks. We rehearse at Jeppe High School for Boys in Good Hope Street, Kensington on Wednesday evenings from 7pm.

Our director is Mrs Janet Swart (TTD, BA, UTLM, LRSM, FTCL) and our accompanist is Mr John Brodrick (BA Hons, STD, LTCL, LRSM, UTLM).

Our repertoire consists of a mix of classical, classic and popular music from all eras. The choir has established itself as a niche performer in popular entertainment and does not limit itself to any particular genre or style of performance.

Our current show is "Rhythms of Life - A Celebration!" which consists of rhythmic music and songs from the past and the present.

One of our previous shows was "50 Something!" which included many of our favourites from the 1950's such as Living Doll, Only Sixteen, Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend and many more.

We also perform a Christmas Programme annually during the festive season. Rehearsals for these performances usually begin around October. The music is usually well-known and well-loved songs and carols with some new and interesting additions.

Our performances are available to malls, casinos, churches and any other organisations wishing to use us for entertainment or to assist in their fund-raising projects. We also provide special music for weddings and other special occasions.

We are a non-profit organisation and charge a set fee to perform in venues chosen by the host organisations. This money is used to pay our director and accompanist, PAYE and dues to SAMRO for performing rights.

We are always ready to welcome new members. If you can sing or have choir experience, or for any enquiries or booking requests, contact Margaret on 011 618-4778 or 083 258-3223 or email her at jpchoir@sbsa.com
